Ethereal goals: We wanted the bedroom to be visually cohesive, incorporate the use of natural elements, to be appropriate for a seven year old girl and relevant as she grows up. Feminine, and the white ornate bed to be the focus of the room, and lots of natural light.
I badly wanted to keep the ornate wrought iron bed, but it was not strong enough as a bunk bed, then I wanted it to be a hanging bed something like this or this , but it was just not practical. Instead we had a friend make this new iron bed inspired by the old one, and the ladder too which were then powder painted and baked for hours to strengthen the exterior and make it near chip proof. The bed is at a height of 185 cm, making it high enough for a most normal humans to walk under, with easy access to the wardrobe and storage below. All the furniture is custom made too, by another friend, and it is a veneer of beautiful real oak wood. We added the open shelves under the bed for a toy boutique feel. The last thing we decided was the color of the walls, and settled on all white with one accent wall, behind the shelves, and went for a daring red. It is quite intense, but we are happy with it.
Considering the space I feel we really used it to the maximum, the room is quite spacious now and the tall bed is the central aspect of the room as I wanted, and we added the white porcelain drawer handles to match. We are all happy with the results, in fact it has become the most put together room in the house, and I enjoy spending time int here even when it's just me at home. The room is so light filled, well it always was, but before there was dark furniture bringing it down. The photo's don't do it justice, it looks and feels even better in real life.
